During this week we were taught how camera work is done during filming, Amit taught us that we should always shoot at 60 frames per second for slow motion shots if we are going to have any in our film and when we bring it to after effects we should tone it down to 24 frames to give that slow motion quality shot, he also mentioned to check out this app called Twixter an app that will help us execute slow motion shots.
Amit also mention that we should always be shooting at 1920 x 1080 and if there is no slow motion we shouldshoot at 24 frames per second. He also talked about how TV series shoot at 30 fps because of broadcasting and Movies shoot at 24 fsps, he also told us that when we are shooting we should think about the black panels.
We also talked about cameras, and Amit mentioned to us that if we wanted quality shots we should go for the Canon 5D Mark 3, but it is a really expensive camera and our university could not provide it at the moment, so if we are willing to have quality shots we can rent this particular camera with a studio called Hot & Cold located here in Dubai, Amit mentioned that it will be costly but they have everything from green screen rooms to high quality equipment.
We also talked about how lenses are used in shoots, we were told to never zoom with our lenses if we have scene were we zoom in, we should always go near/ far if we are going to have these scene. Amit also talked to us about 2 types of lenses, the Normal and Prime lens. Basically a a normal lens are lenses commonly used and prime lenses are used for a fixed focal length. Amit also talked about Depth of Field, it is the distance between the nearest and the furthest objects that gives a focused image. He also mentioned to take notes about exterior lighting. We were also taught that when we are filming to make sure our shutter speed should be set to double of our fps.
If our fps is 60 our shutter speed should be set 125 and if it is 24 it should be set to 60. Amit also mentioned that our ISO should be set to the lowest because the higher the ISO the brighter the image will be.
I also consulted Amit about the leg design for our actress, and he gave me advice on how I can go with the design, he told me to research how robot legs look like and use those as inspiration for the design of the leg. During the week this is what I was able to design:
